Description

SECAUCUS, NJ — During the months of July and August more than a dozen residents' cars were broken into in the south end of Secaucus, specifically on County Avenue, Helen Street, Blanche Street and Lincoln Avenue. All of the burglaries occurred overnight. To combat the increase in vehicle burglaries, the Secaucus Police Department formed a "task force" of uniformed midnight tour patrol officers, under the supervision of Sergeant Reinaldo Cruzado. At 2:21 a.m. today, Friday, Aug. 13, officers on that task force officers observed a man walking in the area recently hit by car burglaries. He also fit the description of the burglary suspect as captured on home security cameras. The man was found hiding near Secaucus Animal Hospital behind a shed. William Fales, 30, of Keyport was subsequently arrested for trespassing and for having two outstanding no-bail warrants from Woodbridge, one outstanding warrant from Keansburg with a bail of $1,000 and one outstanding warrant from Middletown with a bail of $850. At the time of his arrest, Secaucus Police said he was found with used hypodermic needles and other evidence that linked him to some of the vehicle burglaries. "The Secaucus Police Department will continue to change tactics and commit resources to combat crime and protect residents' property, however residents need to do their part and lock their doors," Chief Dennis Miller said. "I applaud the commitment and teamwork of all divisions of the Secaucus Police Department who continue to impress me with their dedication and motivation." Fales was charged with two counts of burglary, theft, defiant trespass and possession of hypodermic needles. He is lodged in the Hudson County Jail. Secaucus Police think he committed two vehicle burglaries on Lincoln Avenue this past Tuesday night. Additional charges for other burglaries may follow. Be the first to know.
