AUSTIN, TX — The bodies of a husband and wife were found a day apart in Lake Travis last week and another swimmer remains missing, according to Travis County Sheriff's Office. Lake Patrol Deputies received a 911 call around 2:48 p.m. on Aug. 8 regarding a person struggling in the water, with another person trying to hold them above water. When officers arrived, they found a woman floating on the surface of the lake. She was recovered by Jonestown police where they immediately started CPR. Austin-Travis County EMS continued life-saving measures once she was brought to a nearby boat ramp. After several attempts were made to resuscitate her, the woman was pronounced dead on scene, deputies said. Officials said the woman's husband, who was in the water with her, was unaccounted for. The sheriff's office's Lake Patrol and Jonestown PD searched for the man, using sonar, until nightfall and Starflight conducted aerial searches. Authorities said lake depths in the area where the man went missing are approximately 30-50 feet deep. The next day, Lake Patrol Deputies found a body of a man, matching the husband's description, in the search area and made the recovery. Officials said the cause and manner of death are pending final autopsy results. "Out of respect for the family involved, and because this is not a criminal incident, TCSO will not disclose the identities of the decedents via press release," authorities said Thursday. TCSO reports it is still searching for a swimmer who went missing the evening of Aug. 7. The missing man was last seen in an area between Starnes Island and North Shore, which is over 120 feet deep, officials said. Deputies are continuing to conduct shoreline searches, surface searches and using various types of sonar in an attempt to locate him. They've been assisted by Jonestown PD and Texas Parks & Wildlife, authorities said. The county sheriff's office reports it has recovered five bodies from Lake Travis this year. Officials said a common factor in all of the incidents is that the people were not wearing a life jacket. "TCSO implores patrons of Lake Travis to be safety conscious and wear life jackets when boating or getting into the water," deputies said.
