Description

Press release from the City of South Bend: August 12, 2021 The release of population data from the U.S. Census Bureau showed that the City of South Bend population grew by 2,285 people over the last ten years, the largest increase in the city's population since the 1960 Census, which tallied population growth throughout the 1950s. "This historic population increase makes clear that South Bend has turned the corner and is a growing city once again," said Mayor James Mueller. "We are proud that people are choosing South Bend as their home, and we must continue to make our city a great place to live." According to Census Bureau data, South Bend's population is now 103,453 – a 2.26% increase from its 2010 count of 101,168. The population mark represents the largest individual population increase since the 1960 Census, and the first time in a century that South Bend's population grew at a faster rate than St. Joseph County's population as a whole.
