Lockport Street Detour Over For Next '3-4 Weeks,' Engineers Say

PLAINFIELD, IL — A detour was in place on Lockport Street until Friday afternoon while crews worked to update water main lines and other sewer services, officials told Patch. The updates were part of the Old Town Neighborhood Improvements Project which will run east of Illinois Route 59 from Main Street to Lake Renwick. While the detour was removed Friday, the village contractor will be blocking another section of Lockport Street in three to four weeks to finish more repairs. Specifically, crews will be working to replace outdated water services by rehabilitating the sewer mains using a "cured-in-place" method, which will eliminate the need to dig out a trench on the roadside. The repairs will improve drainage for surrounding properties, according to Scott Threewitt, lead engineer for Plainfield's public work department. However, the internal repairs aren't all that's on the agenda, Threewitt said. "Once the infrastructure improvements are complete, the Village intends to reconstruct the roadway within the right-of-way, provide additional pedestrian accommodations including ADA compliant curb ramps along with street lighting," he said. Contractors began working along Lockport Street on Aug 9. and had blocked the road from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Officials told Patch emergency vehicles were allowed to pass through the work zone.
