RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead woman was arrested and charged after she punched, kicked, and bit a deputy during a traffic stop, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office said.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the incident took place Thursday at 10:12 p.m. when deputies puller over Daniela Pintado, 21, for speeding through the traffic circle and failing to maintain her lane.
Pintado was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, and driving while intoxicated, the Sheriff's Office said.
When interviewed, Pintado showed signs of intoxication; she was aggressive and volatile, and attempted to walk away when the deputy attempted to administer a field sobriety test, authorities said.
Pintado then physically assaulted the deputy when he attempted to place her in handcuffs; she also punched the deputy in the face, bit his index finger, flailed her arms, and kicked him during the altercation, the Sheriff's Office said. The deputy sustained injuries to his face and right index finger that required him to receive medical treatment at the hospital, officials said.
Pintado was transported to the hospital where the medical examiner drew her blood; she was treated and released, authorities said.
"I will not tolerate instances of assaults on my staff, whether they occur in the community or in the correctional facilities," said Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon. "We will seek to have this defendant prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
