Conservatives crucified Jesus The Pharisees and Sadducees were the conservatives of the day. All they were concerned about was extremely strict following of the letter of the law while ignoring the spirit of the law. The Pharisee and Sadducees priest thought themselves better than anyone else and a caste system was pervasive in those times. Jesus was a radical liberal who spoke of love and treating everyone as an equal and with respect. The conservatives hated him and they crucified him for questioning their authority. Power and authority were all conservatives really cared about then as now.
