This is a great area to live and a great place to raise kids. Outsiders are never welcome, you'll have to get used to that. The rents are very high and difficult to find. You will get a lot of flak for your post from people that are from Oregon and never went anywhere in their lives. The thing is they're all in bred and all related to each other. They think this state is only there's and no one else is allowed to live here. You'll learn to ignore it. Don't let it bother you.
Eugene is very very liberal and Springfield as more Trump country. There is tons of work here.
