Indoor Composting with Red Wigglers
Class Description: During the winter, compost piles in backyards all over NCW stop doing much of anything. But when you compost indoors with worms--specifically, Red Wigglers--your kitchen scraps will continue to produce nutrient-rich worm castings during even the coldest, darkest months. Vermicomposting, as it's called, is probably even easier than you might think. Betsy will demonstrate how to start composting with worms, including discussing the different types of bins you can buy or make. You'll also learn why Red Wigglers are the best for vermicomposting, how to keep them happy--including what and how to feed them--and how to harvest and use your worm castings, AKA black gold. If you start worm composting this winter, you should have enough black gold in the spring to feed your seedlings and other plants. Even if you've tried worm composting and failed, the instructor will try to help you figure out what went wrong.
