Conducting (proxy) Research During a Pandemic
About the Series: In collaboration with the Graduate School and International Education, the University Libraries hosts a Graduate Student Speaker Series during the academic year. This series provides graduate students the opportunity to present research or creative works they have done using materials from Special Collections, and get feedback from our community as they continue their professional development. All graduate students are welcome to apply, and we encourage applications from across disciplines.
About this Presentation: During the COVID-19 pandemic, academics across the world were unable to travel to conduct their research as they would normally have been able to do. This was especially true for archives, which offer access to rare and unique materials and don't have the capacity to digitize all of their collections.
Throughout the pandemic, researchers utilized proxy researchers, i.e. individuals who could conduct the research in person, in the place of those academics who could not travel. This panel event will be a guided discussion in which University of Arkansas graduate students who worked as proxy researchers during the pandemic will be asked to reflect on their experiences conducting research on behalf of others during this unprecedented time.
Panelists include: Michael Anthony, Amanda McGee, and Ryan Smith.
