SARASOTA, FL—Due to rising numbers of COVID-19, the Sarasota County Public Schools superintendent says there will be no visitors allowed on district campuses for the first 30 days. Superintendent Dr. Brennan Asplen announced the restriction, which includes volunteers and any other non-essential visitors, on Tuesday. "Over the weekend, we have seen a daily increase in community spread with the COVID delta variant," Asplen said in a video message. He added that the temporary restriction is aimed at minimizing the number of students and staff who have to quarantine. Field trips are also suspended for the first 30 days of school. As of Wednesday afternoon, the district's COVID-19 dashboard shows 145 students and 39 staff are currently isolating after testing positive for COVID. "Safeguarding our students, staff, and community is of the utmost importance as we work together to minimize the disruption from COVID-19," Asplen said.
