MILWAUKEE, WI — Traffic signals are out Thursday morning in parts of Milwaukee County. Signals on highways and roads may not be working, posing a "dangerous scenario," according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. On one part of Capitol Drive near Port Washington Road Thursday morning, two signals were out, causing small backups as drivers attempted to navigate the uncontrolled intersection. The problem may be present in other parts of the county, the sheriff's office said. "No doubt you've noticed that a number of traffic lights are out. This presents a dangerous scenario, especially at four-way intersections, where there may be uncertainty about who has the right-of-way," the sheriff's office said in a news release. Here are the tips the office posted to navigate an intersection without traffic lights: Uncontrolled Intersection When two vehicles approach an uncontrolled intersection at about the same time the vehicle that reaches the intersection last must yield the right of way. In the same scenario, the driver on the left should yield the right of way. Uncontrolled Four Way Stop At a four-way stop, the same rules apply: yield to the driver who reaches the intersection first, yield to the driver on the right.
