Elmbrook Approves 'Return To Learn Plan' For 2021-22 School Year

BROOKFIELD, WI — The Elmbrook School Board approved of its back-to-school plans Tuesday for the 2021-22 school year. The Return To Learn Plan passed with a few changes, the Elmbrook School District said in a statement. Three learning choices are available for families with students under the age of 12: a mask-required classroom, mask-recommended classroom and a virtual classroom, the district said. There would be no virtual learning option for 4K (4-year-old kindergarten) students, the district said. Virtual learning would be a semester commitment and would be re-evaluated if a vaccine was available for kids under the age of 12, it added. Masks are strongly recommended, but not required, for all 4K-sixth grade students in mask-recommended classrooms and seventh to 12 grade students, the district said. Staff who engage with 4K-sixth grade students in mask-required classrooms will have to wear masks themselves, the district added. The district administration will establish thresholds that would guide any masking recommendation or requirement changes. These thresholds would have to be approved by the board, the district said. The district asked families and students to continue to take self-screening measures: Monitor for COVID-19 symptoms.Stay home when sick and report their absence and symptoms to their school attendance office.Get tested if they have symptoms.Return to school after they are symptom-free for 24 hours, have a negative COVID-19 test or do both.The first day of school at Elmbrook Schools is Sept. 1.
