NEWARK, NJ — A Jersey City resident died after suffering injuries in a car crash in Newark on Wednesday, authorities said. Calvin Cross, 34, was involved in a motor vehicle crash around 4 p.m. on McCarter Highway between 3rd and 4th Avenue, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety. Cross was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 4:52 p.m. A preliminary investigation indicates that Cross was driving a Honda Accord when he collided with a flatbed RAM 550 tow truck, prosecutors said. Two other vehicles also sustained damage in the multi-vehicle incident. Everyone involved remained at the scene, authorities said. "At this time, none of the drivers have been charged with a crime," prosecutors said Thursday afternoon. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the crash.
