SEAT PLEASANT, MD — Police said a pedestrian died Saturday after an SUV struck him in Seat Pleasant. Officers identified the victim as 44-year-old Diondre James of Capitol Heights. The crash happened around 1 a.m. near Central Avenue and Shady Glen Drive, an incident report noted. Authorities added that medics found James suffering from critical injuries in the roadway and they pronounced him dead on the scene. Evidence suggested "James was likely crossing Central Avenue in a crosswalk when he was struck," officials stated. Police indicated the driver did not stay on the scene. An officer with the Seat Pleasant Police Department spotted and stopped a speeding GMC Yukon nearby, the write-up explained. The press release said the officer noticed the SUV was damaged and investigators determined it was the striking vehicle. Authorities did not identify the accused driver nor did they mention any charges against the motorist.
