Press release from the Austin Chamber of Commerce - Blog: Insights Due to a comprehensive revision of the HWOL Index and HWOL Data Series, there will be changes in the volume as a result of this revision. The majority of the volume change was caused by the removal of the bulk of the anonymous ads. Please note that the HWOL Data Series has been revised back to January 2015. Job Postings measured in this report refers to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month. There were about 88,500 Available Job Postings during the July 2021 monthly reporting period, an increase of 500 postings compared to the previous month. There were 28,500 New (first-time) Job Postings, a decrease of 2,900 postings when compared to the previous month. New (first-time) Job Postings in July 2021 represented 32 percent of all Available Job Postings. 29 percent or 25,600 of the all Available Job Postings during the July 2021 reporting period fell under the Computer and Mathematical Occupations and Management Occupations, the top two occupational groups in our region. There were 2,100 postings in January 2021 that offered "signing bonuses", this has increased to 5,700 in July 2021. Last July, there were only 970 postings with signing bonuses, and they were mostly for Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers, Sales Representatives, and Automotive Service Technicians and Mechanics. The current top occupations that are offering signing bonuses are Registered Nurses, Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers, Software Developers and Software Quality Assurance Analysts and Testers, Sales Representatives, and Licensed Practical and Licensed Vocational Nurses. 38 percent or 33,700 of all Available Job Postings pay an annual median wage between $30,000 to $65,000. Of these, 58 percent or 19,500 will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education while 15 percent or 5,100 will require a bachelor's degree. There are about 3,300 Available Job Postings that specifically offer "work from home" opportunities. Of the top ten occupations that offer "work from home" opportunities, four are tech-related: Software Developers and Software Quality Assurance Analysts and Testers, Computer Network Architects, IT Project Managers, and Information Security Analysts. According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Austin MSA reported an unemployment rate of 4.8% or 61,100 unemployed in June 2021. In June 2021, the number of Available Job Postings was about 26,900 more than the number of unemployed in the Austin MSA. More jobs ahead. In July 2021, the Austin metro region saw another 3 more Californian companies make new relocation announcements, bringing the total to 24 for this year alone. A total of 1,255 jobs were announced through new relocation or expansion plans in the Austin MSA for July 2021. Berry Appleman & Leiden (Richardson, TX), DevRev (Palo Alto, CA), Homebase (San Francisco, CA), Museum of Ice Cream (New York, NY), REE Automotive (Herzliya, Israel), and Zox (Agoura Hills, CA) are the companies that have announced new location plans, creating 375 new jobs in Austin. The expansion list representing 880 jobs, includes Bright Machines, Carr Lane Manufacturing Co., Facebook, Fetch Package, GetSales, KungFu.AI, LativoTV, LitLingo, Ontic Technologies, Perkins Cole, PMG Worldwide, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Tomo Mortgage, and Vertalo.
