AUSTIN, TX — Waterloo Park will postpone its ribbon-cutting ceremony and planned celebrations for Saturday's grand opening as coronavirus cases continue to surge in Austin. Waterloo Greenway Conservancy made the announcement Thursday saying it has made the decision to postpone its land acknowledgement, ribbon cutting ceremony and planned programming as cases rise and Austin's re-entry into Stage 5. MORE ON THE PREVIOUS STORY: Waterloo Park, Moody Amphitheater Opens To Public Aug. 14 "We truly believe this is in the best interest of all of our staff, volunteers, vendors, artists, performers, partners, and countless community members and neighbors who have helped bring this park to life," officials said. "August 14th will not look like what we had planned, but it will still represent a momentous occasion for Austin." Starting Saturday, the park will re-open its gates to a beautiful newly reimagined outdoor space. The park encourages visitors to follow local, state and CDC COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. "Though we wish we could celebrate the years of hard work with the fanfare this park and our community deserve, your health and safety are and always will be our number one priority," authorities said. With construction of the park and Moody Amphitheater complete, the nonprofit said it wants to offer the park's 11-acres as a sanctuary for Austinites to be one with nature and to safely enjoy a new Austin landmark. "We hope you enjoy exploring Waterloo Park as you feel comfortable, and encourage wearing a facemask during your visit. Thank you for your continued support - and we hope to see you in the park soon. Stay safe," officials said.
