JERSEY CITY, NJ — The numbers are in and despite Jersey City's population growth, the city remained the second-largest city in New Jersey, just behind Newark. Updated Census numbers released on Thursday show that Jersey City's population count went from 247,597 in 2010 to 292,449 in 2020, about a 15.3 percent increase. Newark's population in 2020 was 311,549 according to Census data, a 12.4 percent increase from 2010. The largest municipalities in New Jersey are as follows: NewarkJersey CityPatersonElizabethLakewoodMayor Steven Fulop tweeted on Wednesday asking residents what their guess would be for population estimates. Several guesses on the tweet thread were in the 280,000 to 300,000 range.
