NEWPORT, RI — Three Rhode Islands beaches are once again safe for swimming, the Rhode Island Department of Health said. Newport's Fort Adams and King Park beaches and Camp Watchaug in Charlestown are safe to reopen, following their bacteria levels returning to normal. The Newport beaches were closed late last week along with several others in Rhode Island, following a day of extremely heavy rain. Charlestown's Camp Watchaug was closed Wednesday for high bacteria levels. For updated beach closure information, call the department's prerecorded beach line at 401-222-2751.
