By John Gibson, WNIN Aug. 12, 2021 COVID-19 infections and vaccinations are both up in Vanderburgh County. The Indiana Department of Health recorded 86 more infections in the county. The agency also added 264 full vaccinations on the Tuesday dashboard – the highest local number in recent weeks. Warrick County saw 35 new infections, Posey County added 22, and Gibson County reported another dozen. One COVID-related death was recorded in Pike County. Hospitalizations surged in the 12-county region of southwest Indiana, up 42 to 139. Only about 22-and-a-half percent of intensive care beds were available. Across Indiana, the department recorded 27 more COVID-related deaths and more than 2,200 new infections as the delta variant continued to spread. Meanwhile, the Green River District Health Department announced more than 500 new infections and five more COVID-related deaths in western Kentucky between August 6th and 9th. Three of the fatalities were in Daviess County, one was in McLean County, and one was added in Ohio County. WNIN is the NPR/PBS affiliate in Evansville, Indiana.
