Description

By Samuel Stebbins, 24/7 Wall St. Wilkes-Barre 2021-08-12 The rapidly spreading Delta variant is fueling a surge in new cases of COVID-19 and adding urgency to the vaccination effort. So far, an estimated 166,861,912 Americans have been fully vaccinated, or 51.0% of the U.S. population. So far, states have largely managed their own vaccination coordination efforts — and some have proven more effective than others. In Pennsylvania, 53.1% of the population are fully vaccinated, higher than the U.S. average. Though Pennsylvania is doing a better job vaccinating its population than other states, there are still significant quantities of the vaccine sitting idle. As of August 10, Pennsylvania has received about 16,553,700 vaccinations and administered about 89.5% of those doses. Meanwhile, the virus continues to spread. In total, there have been 1,235,396 confirmed cases of the virus in Pennsylvania as of August 10 — or 9,646 for every 100,000 people. For context, there have been 10,899 known infections for every 100,000 people nationwide. All COVID-19 and vaccination data used in this story are current as of August 10, 2021. These are all the counties in Pennsylvania where COVID-19 is slowing (and where it's still getting worse). Can't see the article's infographic?
