Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: Chief Daniel Hahn, Sacramento's first Black police chief, announced his retirement Wednesday on Twitter. A veteran of over 40 years on the force, Hahn served both the Sacramento and Roseville communities during his tenure, ending his career with 7 years as Sacramento's 45th chief of police, during a particularly tumultuous time, both in Sacramento and in the nation. (KCRA3) A security guard reportedly opened fire at an apartment complex on Ramona Avenue early Thursday morning. According to the security guard, the two people he shot at were armed. Two people later showed up at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. Police are investigating to see if the two are related. Notably, this same apartment complex was the scene of an officer-involved shooting in 2020 that left a suspect dead. (CBS Sacramento) Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened just after 1:00 Thursday morning. The shooting happened on the Capitol Mall just south of the Tower Bridge. Authorities believe there was an altercation between a group of people on the River Walk just prior to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, the victim has not been named and nobody is in custody at the time of this writing. (FOX40)More than forty community organizations, groups and individuals have been selected to support community outreach efforts for the City's Independent Redistricting Commission. They will be receiving stipends to support their mission of reaching every resident in the city of Sacramento to inform them of what redistricting is and how to get involved. Participants in the outreach program were chosen by a competitive application process. There are 5 ways for the community to participate in the redistricting process: attend community meetings; call in to public meetings; submit e-comments on the proposed agenda; submit comments on the city's website; submit a redistricting map.
