Glenview Mosquito Traps See Increase In West Nile Virus Positives

GLENVIEW, IL — Just one week after the first human in Illinois this summer tested positive for the West Nile Virus in Cook County, Glenview is seeing in an increase in the number of positive mosquitos. For the week of July 31 through Aug. 6, six out of 15 mosquito batches tested came back positive for WNV, according to the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District. In all, 42 of 92 mosquito traps tested came back positive across the 12 municipalities NSMAD serves. For the summer, 13 of 104 batches have tested positive in Glenview/Golf. RELATED: First Human Case Of West Nile Virus In State Is Cook County Man With the risk of infection moderate, the NSMAD is advising residents to take personal protectionmeasures including using an EPA registered repellent, wearing proper attire and eliminating or draining items that can hold standing water around their property. The NSMAD predicts rain events this week will be an impetus for floodwater/nuisance mosquito breeding.
