Description

By Samuel Stebbins, 24/7 Wall St. Portland 2021-08-12 The rapidly spreading Delta variant is fueling a surge in new cases of COVID-19 and adding urgency to the vaccination effort. So far, an estimated 166,861,912 Americans have been fully vaccinated, or 51.0% of the U.S. population. So far, states have largely managed their own vaccination coordination efforts — and some have proven more effective than others. In Oregon, 56.9% of the population are fully vaccinated, higher than the U.S. average. Though Oregon is doing a better job vaccinating its population than other states, there are still significant quantities of the vaccine sitting idle. As of August 10, Oregon has received about 5,835,200 vaccinations and administered about 82.3% of those doses. Meanwhile, the virus continues to spread. In total, there have been 226,899 confirmed cases of the virus in Oregon as of August 10 — or 5,414 for every 100,000 people. For context, there have been 10,899 known infections for every 100,000 people nationwide. All COVID-19 and vaccination data used in this story are current as of August 10, 2021. These are all the counties in Oregon where COVID-19 is slowing (and where it's still getting worse). Can't see the article's infographic?
