So far, an estimated 166,861,912 Americans have been fully vaccinated, or 51.0% of the U.S. population. So far, states have largely managed their own vaccination coordination efforts — and some have proven more effective than others. In Illinois, 49.0% of the population are fully vaccinated, lower than the U.S. average. Lower than average vaccination rates in Illinois appear to be attributable in part to a greater prevalence vaccine hesitancy and resistance among residents. As of August 10, Illinois has received about 15,661,500 vaccinations and administered about 88.8% of those doses. Meanwhile, the virus continues to spread. In total, there have been 1,436,353 confirmed cases of the virus in Illinois as of August 10 — or 11,273 for every 100,000 people.
