PROSPECT HEIGHTS, IL — A private helicopter flight that originated out of Wheeling's Chicago Executive Airport crashed Wednesday morning in nearby Prospect Heights shortly after takeoff. The pilot was the only person onboard, according to Chicago Executive Airport officials. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to Glenbrook Hospital. The airport was closed for a short time. Motorists were advised to avoid the area of Milwaukee Avenue near Palatine Road following the accident that happened at around 6:45 a.m. Milwaukee Avenue was closed from Palatine Road to River Road. The Prospect Heights and Wheeling fire departments responded to the scene. Earlier today Prospect Heights and Wheeling Firefighters took in a helicopter crash at Milwaukee Ave and Apple Dr. south of Palatine Rd. The only soul on board was the pilot.
