NYU Guard Stabs Boss Over COVID-19 Protocol Argument: Report

LOWER MANHATTAN, NY — A New York University security guard stabbed his supervisor six times at the school's Broome Street campus in Lower Manhattan at the end of last month after an argument over his refusal to follow COVID-19 screening protocols, according to a recent report. Frantz Arestyl, 38, stabbed his boss on July 24 with a "large knife resembling a machete," reported the Washington Square News, NYU's student newspaper. According to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, Arestyl stabbed his supervisor after getting in an argument about refusing to comply with the school's COVID-19 screening protocol. The unidentified 48-year-old supervisor is still hospitalized with injuries and "could require extensive surgeries," according to Washington Square News. In the last few days, Arestyl was identified and charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Just last year, the school gave Arestyl NYU's 2020-2021 Service Award for his 15 years as an employee of the Public Safety Department. NYU is one of the many schools requiring students to get vaccinated before classes begins this month.
