SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A new assistant principal has been appointed at Southampton High School, the district said.
According to the Southampton Union Free School District, Keith Saunders will be assuming the post.
"We are excited to welcome Saunders to the district," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas Dyno. "His past achievements, energy, and experience will certainly be a benefit to Southampton."
Saunders, of Centereach, heads to Southampton from the Uniondale Union Free School District, where he served as assistant principal of the district's high school since 2019, the district said.He also worked as the dean of academic services at the same school, and as administrative dean of students and summer school assistant principal at Alverta B. Gray Schultz Middle School in the Hempstead Union Free School District, the district said.
Saunders holds a Bachelor of Arts in Africana studies from Stony Brook University, a Master of Science in elementary education from the New York Institute of Technology at Old Westbury, and a professional diploma of Educational Leadership and Technology, also from NYIT, the district said.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to bring my diverse instructional approach, social and emotional learning standards, restorative practices, and 27 years of pedagogic experience to help anchor the community," Saunders said.
Saunders said he intends to become a liaison in his new position to enhance the synergy between the administration, faculty, parents, students, and community partners.
