Slaying Suspect Arrested After Deadly Tucson shooting

TUCSON, AZ — Salvador R. Blancas, 29, was arrested on suspicion of shooting and killing Christopher V. Romero, 29, early Wednesday morning. Romero was shot around 3 a.m. in a parking lot in the 3600 block of East Speedway Boulevard, according to a news release from Tucson police. He was taken to Banner University Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. He is charged with second-degree murder, according to Tucson police. Blancas is being held at the Pima County Jail. No bond has been set. If convicted of a charge of second-degree murder, Blancas faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. Blancas left the scene of the shooting before police arrived, but later turned himself in to the Marana Police Department, Tucson police said. The shooting followed an altercation in the parking lot between the two men, who Tucson police said knew each other.
