GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Do you have any ideas on how to make the commute through Gwinnett on Interstate 85 easier? If so, the Georgia Department of Transportation and Gwinnett County want to hear from you. The state DOT and the county announced Thursday that they're looking for public input on "potential project alternatives that will improve mobility" along the I-85 corridor between Interstates 285 and 985. In laymen's terms, that means ways to reduce congestion and improve safety. Toward that end, GDOT and Gwinnett are holding a "virtual public-information open house" that started Monday and will run through Sept. 3. The study team also will host a live virtual public meeting on Aug. 26 at 11:30 a.m. The meeting will feature a presentation from the 85 Study Team, as well as an opportunity for attendees to ask questions. To participate in either the open house or meeting, the public can visit 85Study.com to access the events. The website provides more information about study efforts to date, the alternatives being considered, and an online survey. The study area is about 18 miles long and located mostly in Gwinnett County, with a small portion in DeKalb County.
