Traditional Country Singer / Guitar Player forming Band

Meets

Philadelphia PA

Description

I’m a country singer and rhythm guitar player looking to build a gigging band in Philly. I play original music, but my style is steeped in traditional-style country & western music, you might also say old timey, Americana, etc. I do like some sad slow bluegrass waltzes and cowboy music too. I can yodel like Jimmie Rodgers and pick like Maybelle Carter, but I’m my own animal. Play mostly acoustic guitar, but a little electric too, depending on the song. I’d be into throwing in a few covers to orient people but I’d like to focus on original music. I’m a poet and songwriter and I’ve published books and been in a handful of bands on the east and west coasts. I have an album coming out I’d like to start rehearsing. I’m looking for talented musicians who are available to rehearse weekly and gig monthly, maybe go on small regional tours. Looking for: -A harmony singer—would love some tight harmonies, so preferably someone in a tenor / contralto range, but I’m open -Electric guitar player—someone who can play tastefully and melodically, and who knows how to play country music -Pedal steel or lap steel player—again with the tastefulness and the melodiousness and the knowledge -Bass player (electric or acoustic / upright / standup)—someone with a solid pocket who knows how to drive a groove -Drummer—someone also with a solid pocket who can play simply—snare, kick, and high hat Other instruments: -Fiddle, banjo, mandolin, piano / keys, harmonica I’m looking for kind, easy-going people who have their shit together and want to have fun and make serious music. Positivity and good vibes please. I’m easy to get along with and that’s what I’m looking for in bandmates. I’m queer and trans and mixed race. LGBTQIA+ and POC strongly encouraged. In terms of band models, think Emmylou and her hot band from the 70s. Or Waylon Jennings. Or Hank Williams. Or Willie. Other influences: The Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, 20s and 30s country, Charlie Patton, country blues, Kitty Wells, 50s and 60s honky tonk, Bakersfield sound, 70s outlaw country.
