The Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival is a free, family-oriented cultural celebration featuring music, dance, arts, food, and culture. The Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival is a free, family-oriented cultural celebration for all to enjoy live music and dance performances, world foods and artisan vendors, as well as heritage and history of the African Diaspora. In addition to live music and dance performances on the main stage, the festival features two other performance areas, as well as a children's activity area with lively educational experiences. The festival commemorates Kunta Kinte's arrival in Annapolis in 1767 and observes his struggle to preserve his cultural heritage. Thousands of people locally, and nationally, come to the festival to partake in the day's activities in scenic and historic Downtown Annapolis, where Kunta Kinte landed from The Gambia, West Africa. Kunta Kinte Celebrations, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization celebrating the perseverance, education, and cultural heritage of Africans, African Americans, and Caribbean people of African descent.
