Open House @ Anacostia Anacostia Arts Center is back with an Open Mic for creatives and a special Black August tribute Open House @ Anacostia Arts Center is a celebration of the creative ecosystem thriving in DC. This month, we started our open house series and we're excited to present an afternoon full of music, activism, poetry, and a Black owned business showcase. 3:00 to 7 PM: Black Owned Business Showcase Come shop with us! Our Black Owned Business showcase will feature local makers and creatives with one of a kind finds. Interested in Vending? Release A space for artists to share, develop and let their crafts. This open mic is for creatives of all ages, gender expressions, and skill sets. Come share your poetry, music, and stories with a community ready to receive you as you are.  The open mic is a free community building experience for local artists to grow, develop and share their craft.  NO HATE SPEEECH PERIODT!Limit to 2 pieces 5 min max time  4:30 to 7 PM: Black August Celebration w/ Nubian Hueman Black August is an annual commemoration and prison-based holiday to remember Black freedom fights and political prisoners and to highlight Black resistance against racial oppression. Nubian Hueman will be leading a special letter writing workshop where participants will write to Black women political prisoners.  We’re dedicated to creating a home for small businesses, artists, arts and cultural organizations to fulfill our commitment to the revitalization and sustainable economic development of Historic Anacostia.
