Description

An outdoor exhibition of garden structures, programs and artifacts that deeply considers connections between humans and non-human beings. Sited within nine former single-family residential zoned lots informally named "9 Lots" in the Chadsey Condon neighborhood of Detroit, How to Build* Our Own Living Structures re-thinks scales of interconnectedness, community and kinship from the ground up ! The exhibition format is reimagined as a public event (with music & drinks) that acknowledges the site’s past and anticipates its possible futures, and hosts a series of garden structures, programs and artifacts onsite. The architects & designers behind How to Build* Our Own Living Structures were gathered together for their research interests in equity in the built environment, and their ability to offer intuitive moments of clarity around issues of property, land use, and relationships in response to the needs of a city in flux. By extension, the event becomes an open invitation to design formats of living together that cares for all of the city’s living beings. Exhibition Contributors: AÄ MÄ Studio, Cadaster, Could Be Architecture, END Studio, Olde City Builders, Stock-a-Studio, Studio Patina, 1+1+ Architects Exhibition Curators: Laura Marie Peterson & De Peter Yi As urbanists, we must preserve and create new spaces in cities that challenge the typical narratives around growth and development! As designers, we must nurture, reveal and bridge connections, and tell stories of our relationships to each other, to our collective land, and to nature! A 2021 Detroit Month of Design Exhibition & Event! A Very Special Thank You to The 9 Lots Collective & Stewards of the property for hosting the event.Follow us on @9lots on instagram and on our website to see updates for the event and to learn more about the participants!
