The McKrells Live at the Oswego Music Hall
Somewhere tonight, across the country or across the sea, a singer, sitting on a stool on a pub’s corner stage, is belting out a Kevin McKrell song, and the crowd is singing along. McKrell pioneered American Celtic music beginning in 1979 with Donnybrook Fair. Several bands later, in 1998, McKrell formed a powerhouse band under his own name, merging the Irish sensibility of Donnybrook with a steely, world class bluegrass edge. The McKrells toured harder than Donnybrook, bringing its music, with McKrell’s lusty vocals supported by hot string band picking, to Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Folk, Irish and Bluegrass festivals and concert venues around the country.
The 5-member band is Kevin McKrell - guitar, joined by: Frank Orsini on fiddle, violin, viola and mandolin whose repertoire spans Elizabethan, Celtic, Bluegrass, Country and Blues as well as dance tunes from England, New England, Canada, Appalachia, American swing and Cajun; Scott Hopkins on Banjo with music degrees from the University of Connecticut and the Crane School of Music, winning the Crane Concerto Competition on tuba; Brian Melick on Percussion who is single-handedly capable of lifting a good band to the 'great' level and Arlin Greene on Bass who has toured the world with The McKrells and other notable bands including Bill Keith, Dan Tyminski, James "D Train” Williams, Bolton, Big Medicine.
