Description
Regardless of where you've moved from, welcome. Looking forward to meeting you. Nice to meet you... As coastal ex-pats and boomerang Hoosiers, we accidentally found each other and immediately bonded over the transition of an interstate/international move, east coast to midwest culture change, parking, the AMAZINGNESS of in-unit laundry, rent prices, etc etc etc. The purpose of this meetup is to make these conversations a bit less accidental. Regardless of where you've moved from, welcome. Looking forward to meeting you. Our home base for this meetup is The Speak Easy. We ran this meetup from Feb 2019 until March 2020 and we're picking back up in May 2021. COVID precautions will be followed and we're keeping the group small for now. We'll have the doors unlocked at 8:20am. Come in and chat with someone. We'll do formal intros and give-help/get-help from 8:30am - 9am. Casual conversations until 9:30am. FAQ Transit: The Speak Easy is on the Monon Trail at 53rd St. Red Line stop: 54th/College + 9 minute walk. Street parking is free Entry: double doors on Winthrop Ave or via south-side parking lot Speak Easy website: https://speakeasyindy.com/ Juanita moved to Indy from NY where she lived for 4 years, after moving there from Colombia (the country!). She loves the convenience of a car, especially in the winter time, and a having washer & dryer in the apartment, priceless. She still misses NY food offering and tries to make it up by finding new and different restaurants to try and regularly visiting the international supermarkets on the west side. Meg grew up in rural Indiana but has spent the last 11 years living in places far from home like London, Chicago, and most recently New York. Late 2018, she reunited with the midwest with the intention to launch a business in an exciting and growing market. Her roots are here but what she is finding is the Indy community is nothing like when she left it. She is excited to explore the emerging community and connect with newcomers and fellow boomerangs. Domini was born and raised in Northeast Indiana, moved from Indiana to Australia, France, DC, and NYC. Nomad-in-chief, mom to poodles and Leo, Andrew’s wife, IU graduate, Francophile, Soprano 1, with more moving experience than she’d like to admit. Economic Development and Regional Talent Strategy expert, community organizer, recovering politico. Shopping is her favorite sport; Diet Coke runs through her veins. Ali moved from her hometown of Washington DC (via New York and LA) in 2017, knowing exactly zero people in Indy. Fortunately, there was the dog park - always a great place to meet folks. After years in the burbs, she’s loving the walkability of downtown living and the lack of traffic when forced to venture farther afield. Ali is digging Indy’s culinary scene and has discovered a newfound appreciation for all things State Fair - especially the fact that she can bike there. Julie grew up in the SF Bay Area and moved to Indy from Philadelphia/Washington DC in late 2016, determined to figure out how to get plugged in to her new city. She still has the residual habit of being thrilled to find a parking spot within three blocks of her destination (spoiler: there's always parking within a block or two of your destination in Indy).
