Plymouth Opens Cooling Centers For Heatwave Relief

PLYMOUTH, MA — With temperatures expected to be in the 90s this week, the town of Plymouth has opened three spaces as cooling stations. The Plymouth Fire Department took to Twitter Wednesday informing the public that The Center for Active Living located at 44 Nook Road will be used as a cooling station. They added both public libraries are also open to the public and have air conditioning. The opening alert comes after state officials issued a heat advisory for Wednesday, August 11 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, August 13. The advisory includes all of Massachusetts, except for the Cape and Islands. The National Weather Service forecasted temperatures, saying Thursday is expected to be the peak of the potential heatwave, with maximum heat indices near 110 degrees in some parts of the state. "Temperatures are predicted to soar over the next few days. If you or your loved ones need to escape the extreme heat, please visit the Center for Active Living cooling station," said Fire Chief Edward Bradley. The Center for Active Living will be open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m – 4 p.m. The Main Library located at 132 South Street is open Monday – Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. The Manomet Branch Library is located at 12 Strand Avenue and will be open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m Monday through Wednesday, and Thursday from 1 p.m. - 9 p.m. Plymouth Fire Department Announces Cooling Station Amid Heat Advisory https://t.co/StH347pud6— PlymouthFireDept (@PlymouthFireDpt) August 11, 2021
