Description

Join this FREE Tour at the African World Festival! Did you know that Midtown is part of a Black historic neighborhood in Detroit? The Gotham Hotel, the Detroit Urban League, the Brewster Homes, and the Paradise Theater are all there! And MORE!! Before it was called "Midtown," and before the Detroit Medical Center occupied most of this neighborhood, this area was known as the Sugar Hill District. It was seen by many as "north" Paradise Valley. Join educator & historian, Jamon Jordan on a tour in the same district that includes historic Black churches, hotels, clubs, homes and organizations! This important Black Historic District is full of history! We meet in front of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and we will tour this district and see some of the most important historic sites in Detroit. WHO WE ARE The Black Scroll Network, History & Tours, L.L.C., came into being in 2013. After years of leading tours for free, the founder of the company saw the need for people to have a personal experience with the history of African Americans and Black people throughout the Diaspora. This is especially true in Detroit, MI, where the company was founded and is based. This city, which is about 85% African American, has a rich history, from enslaved Africans and Indigenous People to being a major station on the Underground Railroad which Black people used to escape enslavement, to a Black economic and residential center, known as Black Bottom & Paradise Valley to numerous events, leaders and figures in history. We offer tours in Detroit, other places in Michigan, and even historical sites throughout the United States. Please contact Jamon Jordan at 313-983-9216 or email him at [email protected] to schedule a tour.
