Introduction to Ceramics (4 Class Beginners Course) an overview of all the basics of making pottery, with a focus in the Marbling technique About this event Pottery is a beautiful and elaborate art. There are many different steps that must take place before you can use your bowl or coffee mug at home. This course is designed to give you an overview of all the basics that go into creating pottery; from sourcing the different types of clay to wedging, centering, wheel throwing, trimming, glazing, and firing your pieces. Each class module will build upon the lessons from the previous class, creating a flow that accelerates your learning process, including hours of wheel throwing. Marbling This unique workshop will focus on the beautiful technique of Marbling clay - which consists of mixing together two different clay colors to attain a style that resembles marble. This course will meet on: Tuesday, August 24th - 6 PM - 8:30 PM Tuesday, August 31st - 6 PM - 8:30 PM Tuesday, September 7th - 6 PM - 8:30 PM Tuesday, September 14th - 6 PM - 8:30 PM Our Introduction to Ceramics Course will cover and include: - Overview of the basics: preparing and wedging your clay (How to marble) - How to center your clay on the wheel - How to throw simple shapes like a mug, a vase, a bowl, a plate - The art of trimming and how to use basic trimming tools - Glazing your pieces and how firing a kiln works - All of the materials, tools, and equipment needed The Vibe: This 4 class course is an introduction to the fascinating world of ceramics, designed for beginners. An overview of the process of making marbled ceramics, we will cover the basics of wedging, glazing, trimming, and firing a kiln. Essentially, a great sendoff to the beginning of your journey into pottery. We will offer some beverages, but you are welcome (and encouraged) to BYOB/Wine. There is plenty of free street parking right outside our property. Expect a nice relaxing playlist in the background and know that our classes are held semi-outdoor, so we will accommodate in case of terrible weather. Your instructor: Miami-based Ceramicist, Debora Nascimento has been working with ceramics for over 8 years and has taught Creative Arts in studios state-wide. Debora focuses on the simplicity of pottery and the beauty of nature that is within all of us. Our studio: Of Course I Still Love You (OCISLY) Ceramics is a pottery brand that started in South Beach and now has its studio in Casa Mida, an oasis in the middle of Wynwood.
