Join WEHP and MUFI for our bi-weekly nighttime market! Shop with local vendors, enjoy some live music, and engage with community members. The West End Hazel Park business coalition (WEHP) is hosting a community-based Farmers Market to benefit The Michigan Urban Farming Initiative and the Marigold Project. WEHP is a community building organization that helps to address local issues with active community members and small business owners at the basis of the decision making process. This event will give local area residents of Hazel Park a chance to meet neighbors and make meaningful connections with community members. Visitors will have the opportunity to select from MUFI’s fresh, seasonal produce offerings and shop with other local vendors during this night time market. Information will be available for marigold seedlings and to sign up for the Marigold Project, a community art event that will take place in mid- October, 2021. Also present will be the Hazel Park School System, Hazel Park Library giving away books for summer reading, other civic groups with information on their programs, food vendors and live music. This is a free event open to the public. The Michigan Urban Farming Initiative is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that seeks to engage members of the community in sustainable agriculture. We believe that challenges unique to urban communities like Detroit (e.g., vacant land, food security) present a unique opportunity for community-supported agriculture. We hope to empower urban communities by using agriculture as a platform to promote education, sustainability, and community while simultaneously reducing socioeconomic disparity.
