NORWALK, CT — Crews extricated drivers from two separate vehicles involved in crashes within 24 hours of each other over the weekend, according to fire officials. In a news release, Deputy Chief Edward Prescott said the first incident occurred Friday around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Wilson Avenue, during which Norwalk firefighters and Rowayton volunteer firefighters extricated a driver from a Mitsubishi Outlander that had rolled onto its driver's side door after colliding with a pickup truck. The roof was removed to allow the uninjured driver to exit the vehicle, Prescott said. Early the next morning, around 2:30 a.m., firefighters located a Toyota Corolla that had driven into the back of a tractor trailer parked on the shoulder of Interstate 95 near the southbound exit 14 ramp, Prescott said. Firefighters used multiple extrication tools to remove the passenger side doors, raise the vehicle's dashboard and free the uninjured driver, who was jammed under the steering wheel, Prescott said.
