Pittsburgh Public Schools Start Of Classes Delayed By 2 Weeks

PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent Anthony Hamlet announced Tuesday that the start of the school year will be delayed until Sept. 8. Some district students were scheduled to start Aug. 25. Teachers will report to work beginning Aug. 30. The two-week delay means the end of the school year will not occur until June 22 for students and June 24 for teachers. The delay will give the district more time to recruit additional bus drivers and lessen the strain of students wearing masks during presumably hot weather, district officials said. The district currently is short about 6,000 bus seats for the coming school year, but is hiring several transportation companies to resolve the issue.
