Highway 116 Reopens After 3-Vehicle Crash; Separate Gravel Spill

PETALUMA, CA — Lakeville Highway was closed for more than two hours Tuesday at the scene of a three-vehicle crash that left at least three people injured. Around 10:45 a.m., Petaluma police advised state Highway 116 was closed in both directions between Frates Road and Browns Lane. The collision involved a commercial box truck, Volkswagen Jetta and a Chevrolet pickup, according to a news report. The driver of the box truck collided with the side of the Jetta, then spun out. The Jetta, which was traveling in the opposite direction of the box truck, then collided head-on with the pickup truck which had been traveling behind the box truck in the westbound lane, according to the report. The Jetta driver and box-truck driver were both trapped inside their vehicles. All three drivers were taken to hospitals and were expected to survive their injuries, police told local media. As the incident was investigated, the public was urged to avoid Lakeville Highway. Shortly before 1:15 pm. Tuesday, police said the roadway was reopened. Farther south on Lakeville Highway, the California Highway Patrol reported an incident involving a big rig near Cannon Lane/Mangel Ranch Road. Around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, a white semi-truck lost an extensive load of gravel and continued eastbound on Lakeville Highway, according to CHP dispatchers. Loose gravel spilled onto both sides of the road, the CHP said. By 3:30 p.m., the roadway was reopened.
