CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation presented a check to the family of fallen Chicago Police Officer Ella French. Phil Cline, a former Chicago police superintendent and the CPMF executive director, visited Officer French's family Tuesday to offer his condolences on behalf of the foundation and its supporters.
"Officer French and her partner were conducting a traffic stop, doing what can be a routine task, when they were both shot. Her life was taken far too early. She died protecting this great city," Cline said in a written statement. "These two officers placed themselves in harm's way because it was her job to serve and protect. "
"Officer French was a young, enthusiastic police officer. She will never be forgotten," Cline added.
Cline also provided a check to the fallen officer's family in the amount of $60,000 to help them with expenses in the near term. Support for the foundation comes directly from current and former Chicago police officers, businesses and citizens who give generously to the foundation's mission.
Since 2007, Total amount of assistance given to Chicago Police families in need is $15.3 million. To donate to CPMF in memory of CPD Officer Ella French, visit the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.
