CHICAGO — The woman who was targeted in a botched police raid joins the City of Chicago in mourning the loss of Chicago Police Officer Ella French. Anjanette Young was naked, handcuffed and afraid as Chicago cops pointed pistols in February 2019 while raiding her home looking for someone who didn't live there.
CBS2 first broadcast police video of the botched raid, which sparked national outrage. Young has since filed a lawsuit against the city, police department and 12 officers on the scene
French was called to Young's home on Feb. 21, 2019 after the raid and was not part of the raid team, Young's attorney, Simone Jackson, said in a written statement.
"Officer French assisted Ms. Young and allowed her to get dressed in the privacy of her bedroom," Jackson said. "Officer French was the only officer who showed Ms. Young any dignity or respect the night of the raid."
"Ms. Young is praying for Officer French's family and offers her sincerest condolences to them and all of Officer French's friends and colleagues."
French was killed Saturday while conducting a traffic stop in West Englewood as part of a community safety team. Her partner was critically wounded and remains hospitalized at University of Chicago Medical Center. The 22-year-old man accused of shooting the officers was also shot in an exchange of gunfire.
