TEMPE, AZ — Arizona State University will require masks to be worn in "certain indoor settings" including inside classrooms and labs, the university announced Wednesday. The university based its masking policy on guidance for universities and colleges from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In June, Gov. Doug Ducey issued an executive order that banned Arizona's public universities and community colleges from requiring students to be vaccinated or to wear masks. ASU will require masks indoors when physical distancing is not possible, such as in clinical setting like at the ASU Health Centers and in meeting rooms and design studios. ASU might also require masking in some crowded outdoor locations, based on CDC guidance. The university is continuing to recommend face coverings inside its buildings at all times and encourages vaccination.
