Masks Required Indoors For Trussville Students

TRUSSVILLE, AL — As COVID-19 cases skyrocket in Jefferson County and schools in the area welcoming students back to classrooms, Trussville City Schools announced that students will be required to wear masks while indoors. The school system released a statement Monday saying it will follow guidelines from the Alabama Department of Public Health's Toolkit, which recommends universal masking of all students and social distancing of at least three feet. A Trussville Tribune report on the Board of Education meeting Tuesday said school officials clarified that masks will only be required in certain circumstances. "Students will wear masks during school bus transport, in class settings where they are within three to six feet of others, and when in close contact group settings," the official statement from TCS said. "Students do not need to wear masks in uncrowded hallways, outdoors, in cafeterias, or any other time where social distancing can be achieved." As well, visitors are not allowed in schools and one-way foot traffic will be put in place for all schools. The school system will also keep plexiglass shields in place and will have portable desk shields available.
