SLC Recycling Industries an affiliate of Ferrous Processing and Trading has immediate openings for Metal Handlers at its location in Warren, MI. Summary: The Metal Handler will assist the facility by sorting through various piles of non-ferrous metals, removing non-recyclable materials, and separating recyclable materials by type and grade by performing the following duties. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Inspects materials and sorts items or materials into piles or places in bins or barrels according to type, size, condition, coloring, marking, or other characteristics. • Rakes and loads metals into boxes and drums preparing materials for shipment. • Operates balers and shears. • Drives forklifts and bobcats to transport materials to various staging areas. • Maintains material inventory control. • Makes daily maintenance checks on assigned equipment. • Assists with quality control. • Performs light duty preventative maintenance on assigned equipment. • Moves reusable materials to the production department or storage. • Separates metal particles from waste. • Attaches labels to waste and salvage containers to identify contents. • Weighs materials and containers and keeps records of the total amount of waste collected. • Understands and follows verbal and written communications; • Works cooperatively with other employees; • Works safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others; • Other duties, as assigned. Minimum Qualifications include: •  Successful completion of a pre-employment background, a physical and substance screening process.
