Description
It’s all about the groove and vocals. Be a part of a newly forming South OC band of mature/aging friends whose combined talent and experience create a cool vibe, where a pocket groove supports clear, confident vocals on carefully selected songs across a range of styles. Think early retirees or near retirees who want to continue performing music into their golden years at a high level while being in community with like minded musicians. We’re looking for semi-pro level musicians who aren’t in it for gig money (what money?) who want to spend time working up great tunes and occasionally performing them live.
Currently have drums and keys (with decades of gigging experience), and are looking for lead female and male vocals, guitar, bass, and multi-instrumentalist guitar (acoustic, mandolin, etc.). Vocalists and musicians of any ethnicities are encouraged to reply, as we’re interested in your good vocal chops and playing, not the color of your skin. Prima donnas and/or MAGA-hat wearing politicos need not apply, as we’re looking for harmony, not discord, pun intended. Alcohol and 420 friendly, but plan on saving those for after rehearsal. Last requirement is to come prepared for rehearsals, because rehearsals are for polishing, not for learning the songs. And, I have a rehearsal space in my home in Dana Point, so your commute should be thirty minutes or less to want to be a part of this.
A sampling of musical styles and representative bands from the set list includes:
Yacht Rock: Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac
Classic Rock: Bob Seger, R.E.M., Neil Young, Tom Petty
Blues: Gov’t Mule, Ruthie Foster
R&B: Marvin Gaye, Box Tops, Sade, Isley Brothers, Gap Band
Country: Wynonna, James McMurtry, Mavericks, Blue Rodeo
Americana: Son Volt, John Hiatt, Tommy Castro
Reggae: Anuhea, Common Kings
Jazz: Michael Franks
