About Our Team Our Maintenance and Operations team is made up of highly talented and dedicated members who demonstrate exceptional commitment to maintaining a state-of-the art campus that includes buildings, playing fields, rinks, and sprawling fields and grounds. To be successful in this role, you must be able to: • Ensure the maintenance, repair and beautification of campus buildings, grounds, roads, and outdoor facilities, including but not limited to grass, flower beds, and roadways • Assist with the maintenance of landscaping, snow removal, parking lots, and playgrounds • Troubleshoot and resolve routine maintenance issues in a timely and efficient manner • Assist with setting up and breaking down tables, chairs, equipment for campus programs and events • Provide parking attendant and campus security assistance for campus events, as needed • Operate light equipment, machinery, and vehicles (including, but not limited to: motor vehicles, Zamboni machines, tractors, lawnmowers, snowblowers, trimmers, saws, drills, and other mechanical or power-driven equipment) • Perform routine repairs to ensure optimal safety and performance of facilities, equipment, and vehicles • Ensure the safety and security of the people and buildings within our school community • Willingness to work variable shifts, including nights and weekends, as needed • Maintains maintenance logs and inventory supplies and materials • Other duties as assigned Qualifications • High school diploma or GED with at least one year of apprenticeship or on-the-job training • Trade school or college graduate with coursework in landscaping or trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, etc.) highly desirable • One to two years of experience with building, landscape, and custodial maintenance • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC skills highly desirable • Ability to safely and proficiently operate power tools and equipment including saws, drills, etc. • Effective interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines • Ability to work independently as well as effectively interact and collaborate in a team environment • Punctual and consistent attendance, good sense of humor, and a strong work ethic • Ability to satisfactorily pass a pre-employment background checks and other screenings • Demonstrated commitment to safety and efficiency • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to complete assignments with minimal supervision • Current and valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to/from work • CDL license and ability to drive bus highly desirable • Ability to create and contribute to an engaging and inclusive learning environment and workplace • Ability to be flexible, effectively manage stress, and adapt to changing work priorities and assignments This job requires one to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds as well as the ability to stand, sit, walk, and effectively communicate (oral, written, non-verbal) with others. This job typically requires 5% sitting, 75% walking, and 20% standing and is performed under ongoing temperature variations in a generally hazard free environment. Incumbent will be required to work extended hours (early morning, late afternoon/evening), including after school, during evenings, and occasional weekends. Dexter Southfield’s 36-acre campus is comprised of several buildings, playing fields, and outdoor learning spaces, which are accessible via internal and external walkways, stairs, nature paths, hills, and uneven terrain. This position requires one to navigate and transfer between work areas and buldings in all weather conditions. This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly paid), benefits-eligible position.
