Description

Henry George School's Political Economy Book Club discusses Love & Hate in Jamestown: John Smith, Pocahontas, and the Start of a New Nation "In 1606, approximately 105 British colonists sailed to America, seeking gold and a trade route to the Pacific. Instead, they found disease, hunger, and hostile natives. Ill prepared for such hardship, the men responded with incompetence and infighting. Only the leadership of Captain John Smith averted doom...." (from the book jacket). This extraordinary book tells the story, context and results of that expedition. A lot of folks found it to be a great read. Numerous copies are available at Chicago Public Library and other libraries, or can be inexpensively purchased . The HGS Political Economy Book Club is convened by Bob Matter, who can be contacted with questions or for further information. There's no charge for the meeting, but you must reserve your place, so that building security will have your name and admit you, and capacity limits are respected.
